Our Story

A mother's instinct, shaped by experience

Written by Paula, mother and founder

I am Paula, the founder of Balms of Life.

Long before I became a mother, I already knew how deeply our bodies respond to what we put in them, and on them.

At seventeen, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. It pushed me to question everything: how I ate, how I lived, what I trusted. Not out of fear, but out of respect for how sensitive and intelligent the body truly is.

I started making my own shampoo. My own lip balms, my own face balms, slowly stripping the toxins out of my own life, one product at a time, years before I ever thought about babies.

That instinct stayed with me. When I was expecting my son, it simply took over.

I became deeply intentional about what would touch his skin. I assumed finding a truly gentle, honest diaper balm would be easy. Something simple. Natural. Made with care.

Instead, I found products full of compromises. Hidden fillers. Fragrances never made for newborn skin. "Natural" claims that didn't feel true.

I couldn't find what I was looking for.

So I made it myself.

In our kitchen, I started formulating a balm with only what I trusted: organic plant butters, beeswax, time. No preservatives. No fillers. No fragrance. Just ingredients chosen for a reason, blended slowly, the way I would for my own child.

"What started as something I made for my son became something other parents asked for. Not because it was branded. Because it was honest."

Balms of Life isn't built for speed, or scale. It's built on instinct: the instinct to protect, to nourish, to do things carefully, even when it takes longer.

Every jar is made in small batches, with the same attention I bring to caring for my own child. This is skincare rooted in motherhood, in lived experience, in trust. Not trends, not marketing.

Baby Bum is our first balm. It's only the beginning.

Handmade for baba. By mama.
